‘Orange’ You Glad We Have GSK?
On November 3 where could you build a bookcase, plant a tree, paint a playground and hold a tarantula all in one place? E.K. Powe Elementary School, that’s where!
GlaxoSmithKline’s Biomedical Data Sciences / Quantitative Sciences group chose Powe for their annual Orange Day. About 100 GSK employees donned orange T-shirts and spread throughout the campus for beautification projects, including planting shrubbery and trees, installing a butterfly garden, building a fence around the school’s koi pond, painting playground equipment and railings and general cleanup.
GSK also partnered with High Touch High Tech: Science Made Fun, along with Duke University’s chemistry department, to get students involved with science experiments and more. They included exploding a soda bottle by breaking down liquid and releasing gas via a popular breath mint, studying weather equipment and getting up close and personal with a tarantula, a kimono dragon, and eel and other exotic animals and insects.
DPS is very grateful to our business partners who are always there to help our schools improve, inside and out!
