Scholarships - Working with your Counselor
Your counselor and guidance office can be great resources in your scholarship search and application process. Each high school has its own system for organizing scholarship information and letting students know what scholarships are available. Make sure that YOU find out what information is available at your school and how you can use it.
It is useful to get to know your counselor BEFORE you apply for a scholarship. If you haven’t done so already, meet your counselor and let him or her know about your scholarship interests.
When working on a specific scholarship application, contact your counselor when:
-
Your school must nominate you
-
Applications must be obtained from your school
-
You need a counselor recommendation or transcript
-
You have questions after reviewing the application form.
SCHOLARSHIP TIP:
Be sure to give your school counselor ample time to do a thoughtful job on your application and to submit it on time. Request transcripts and recommendations from your counselor well in advance of scholarship deadlines.
