AIG Parent Advocacy Board
Board advocates for AIG programs, students
One of the main goals of Durham Public Schools Superintendent Carl Harris is to strengthen and expand the district’s Advanced Academics programs, making more academically rigorous courses available to a greater number of students.
An important piece of bolstering Advanced Academics is the formation of the Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted Parent Advocacy Board.
This new group serves as a strong communication link among all segments of the school community. Members meet quarterly to discuss AIG issues and to review the progress of AIG students and the overall program.
The Board provides a way for parents to offer support for their children and their school’s AIG program, to serve as advocates for the educational needs of gifted students and to advocate for those students who could benefit from the extra challenge that AIG programs offer.
