Philosophy
Morehead Montessori School, through a partnership with students, families, and community, will promote academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of all students using developmentally appropriate hands-on activities to cultivate strengths and celebrate differences. Montessori teachers help children become independent and self-directed in their learning by giving enough assistance to guide and challenge, while allowing ample room for individual discovery. The Montessori model assumes that all children want to learn, and it respects the individual's style and pace of learning.
Teaching
Instructional delivery is based in the philosophy and work of Maria Montessori. Montessori trained teacher-facilitators match children's developmental needs with appropriate materials and activities in multi-age, multi-grade classes. Instruction is individualized, with students actively involved in purposeful learning. The classroom environment provides students with concrete, hands-on experiences that lead to an understanding of abstract concepts. Learning is viewed as a constructive process.
Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students
The Academically/Intellectually Gifted program at Morehead Montessori offers interdisciplinary educational enrichment to identified students through a myriad of challenging learning experiences in a variety of settings (consultation, inclusion, and pull-out).

From I-40:
Exit onto the Durham Freeway (147 N). Take the Duke Street Exit (one way). Proceed about one block and turn left onto Jackson Street. Proceed another block and turn left onto Gregson Street. (Gregson Street Street becomes Vickers Avenue.) Turn right onto Cobb Street. Morehead Montessori School is located at 909 Cobb Street.
From I-85:
