DECHS: Your Future In Healthcare Starts Here

Welcome to Durham Early College of Health Sciences

Imagine attending a school where you can earn your high school diploma while gaining healthcare credentials, all at no cost to you. Welcome to Durham Early College of Health Sciences (DECHS), where students are immersed in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, preparing for meaningful careers in healthcare.

Why Choose DECHS?

Real-World Experience

At DECHS, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through our partnership with Duke Health, students engage in paid internships, job shadowing, and summer camps — real-world experiences that equip them to succeed in the healthcare field.

Pathways to Employment

Duke Health, a leading national healthcare provider, hopes to recruit 50-60 DECHS graduates who complete their credentials. (Please note that some career pathways at DECHS may require a social security number for state licensure at the end of the pathway plan. All students will work with the Career Development Coordinator and College Liaison to pursue the pathway that best suites their healthcare goals.)

Earn College Credit

As a DECHS student, you can graduate with more than just a high school diploma. You’ll have the opportunity to earn a healthcare credential or even an associate degree, putting you ahead of the competition in the job market.

No Cost to You

DECHS is a tuition-free public school. College courses, textbooks, and fees are fully covered, providing access to a top-tier education without financial barriers.

Your Path to Success Begins Now

At DECHS, we don’t just teach healthcare — we immerse you in it. Students take college-level courses at Durham Technical Community College while in high school, fast-tracking their healthcare careers. Whether you aspire to be a nurse, clinical researcher, or medical assistant, DECHS provides the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to make your dreams a reality.
