Jordan High School New School Year

New Attendance Expectations 2024 - 2025

Report a Student Absence

Why Does Attendance Matter?

Missing 10% or more school days, due to absence for any reason (excused, unexcused, and/or suspension) can translate into students struggling with being academically and socially successful, and having difficulty graduating from high school.

Religious Observances

The Parent/Guardian must seek prior approval from the principal for "Religious Observance" absences. For a more detailed description of the accepted excuses, follow the link here for the Jordan High School Student/Family Handbook.

Written or Emailed Excuses are Accepted

  • Excuses will only be accepted from a parent/guardian, no later than 3 days after the student returns to school.

  • The parent/guardian's signature and phone number is required in the excuse.

  • All excuses (written or emailed) need to be delivered to the front office receptionists.

  • Illness or injury

  • Quarantine

  • Death in the immediate family

  • Medical/Dental appointments - DOCTOR'S NOTE REQUIRED

  • Court or Administrative Proceedings

  • Religious Observances

  • Educational Opportunity

  • Pregnancy and parental obligations

  • Military affiliation

Parent Notification

  • Students that do not attend at least 75% of the school day will be counted absent for the day.

  • If your student has missed class, a phone call will be received from the school to notify the student’s parent/guardian of the absence on that specific day.

6 Unexcused Absences

  • A 6 DAY Attendance letter will be mailed to the student’s residence when 6 days of unexcused absences is accumulated.

10 Unexcused Absences

  • When a student accumulates 10 days of absences (this does not have to be consecutive), the parent/guardian will receive a 10 Day Attendance letter.

  • A phone call will be received informing the Parent/Guardian that their student will be withdrawn from JHS effective the day the 10th day of absences was received.

*We will use the contact number and address on file.*

Re-enrollment

Students will have the option to re-enroll to attend JHS, unless otherwise informed from administration. Re-enrollment consists of filling out an enrollment form online for DPS schools. You will then have to wait to be contacted by school staff. All students and Parent/Guardian will have to attend a re-enrollment meeting before the student returns to JHS to assist school staff with understanding how to support the student with being successful at JHS.

Our Attendance Goals this 2023-2024 School Year are to. . .

  • Communicate the value of attendance at Jordan High School.

  • Ensure that Parents/Guardians are aware of all student attendance issues.

  • Promote the safety and security of students and staff by identifying students who are not attending their scheduled classes.

  • Identify students and families that may be in need of additional support outside of the school environment.

Please Update Contact Information!

  • In the past, there have been some reports of students blocking the school phone number from their parent’s cellphone, and submitting emails on behalf of their parents.

  • Sometimes the Parent/Guardian’s phone number/email address/home address has not been updated after a personal change.
