Sherwood Githens Middle School is the home of the Raiders. Githens focuses on developing future ready scholars and our teachers challenge and support each student to reach their full potential. History

In 1965 Sherwood Githens Junior High School was built adjacent to the current Jordan High School on Garrett Road. The school was named after Sherwood Githens, Jr., who graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1936 with a Ph.D. in Physics. During his career, he taught at Harvard, Baylor, Duke and Wake Forest.
