Brogden Middle School offers a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, designed to develop bilingualism and biliteracy by providing instruction in both Spanish and English. Our program ensures students master academic content while becoming proficient in both languages.

Enrollment & Eligibility
Enrollment will be open to 6th Grade students for the 2025-2026 school year. Students within Brogden’s attendance zone do not need a lottery to enroll in the school but must enter a lottery for placement in the DLI cohort.

  • Eligible students must have either:

    • Previously attended a Spanish DLI program.

    • Demonstrated grade-level proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

Program Structure
Our Two-Way Immersion model includes 50% native English speakers and 50% native Spanish speakers.

  • Instruction follows a gradual language progression:

  • Eligible students must have either:

    • Begins with a 90/10 split (mostly Spanish instruction).

    • Evolves into a balanced 50/50 model by upper grades.

Bilingual educators use immersion techniques to support language development.

Benefits of the DLI Program

  • Bilingual & Biliterate Proficiency – Students gain fluency in both languages.

  • Academic Achievement – DLI students often outperform monolingual peers over time.

  • Cultural Competence – Exposure to diverse cultures fosters global awareness and appreciation.

  • Cognitive Advantages – Learning in two languages enhances problem-solving, creativity, and multitasking.

Our goal is to empower students with bilingual skills, high academic achievement, and sociocultural competence, preparing them to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
