The Restorative Practices Center (RPC) is designed to support students who need additional opportunities to develop self-discipline, self-control, and responsible decision-making to ensure both academic and behavioral success—for themselves and their peers. The RPC is an intentional and strategic component of our school-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which establishes core expectations for academic performance and behavior across all learning environments.
An RPC classroom serves as an immediate, short-term intervention that provides structured separation from the general student population. Students may be assigned to RPC for a duration ranging from a single class period to up to 10 school days due to minor, ongoing behaviors that have disrupted instruction and interfered with student learning. During their time in RPC, students remain engaged in their academic coursework while also receiving targeted support to strengthen their social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
An effective RPC serves both short-term and long-term goals:
Short-term: Provide an immediate response that allows the student to reflect, reset, and maintain academic progress.
Long-term: Help students better understand the impact of their actions and develop strategies for making more positive choices moving forward.
Restorative practices are foundational to the RPC model. These practices shift the focus from punitive discipline to relationship-building, communication, and accountability. When integrated into school culture, restorative practices promote:
Building and Repairing Relationships: Strengthening connections between students and staff to foster a more respectful, inclusive environment.
Student Agency: Empowering students to take ownership of their behavior and actively participate in resolving conflicts.
Teachers will receive notification via email when a student is assigned to RPC, including the duration of the placement and any necessary instructions or expectations.
